Sold SB5e Glider For Sale!

Description

I have owned this glider (with my syndicate partner) for the last 4 ½ years. In that time we have had great pleasure flying it.

It is an ideal first glider as it has benign flying characteristics with an easy predict stall. It will spin, however you really have to try to make it spin!. It comes out with a very normal recovery. The air brakes are very powerful that makes spot landings easy.

It's a V tail which is easy to rig and very normal to fly. Once at the controls it's impossible to tell if you have a T or V tail! There are about 50 SB5's flying (out of 70 made), mostly in Germany however, one is still flying at Hus Boss. This glider is the long winged variant (high performance) at 16.1m

It's quoted performance is 34-1 which means if you are 5000 ft at cloud base you will land some 32 miles away! It's not as quick as a more modern fibreglass glider (it cruisers at 60mph and has a max speed of 132mph). however it will climb in very weak conditions. Our glider is often the first to take off and last to land (with flights of over 7 hours!)

There are no known faults with the glider that will prevent it passing its annual inspection. We will be taking it for it's annual shortly so it will have a full years ticket on it when sold. As the glider is 40 years old it has had a few bits of hanger rash however it's generally in good condition. The wings were painted before we owned the glider. In my opinion the paint was applied too thickly which has cracked on the rear fabric section of the wing. This in no way compromises safety.

It has been expertly constructed mainly from plywood with some glass fiberglass or gel coat around the front of the fuz. The wings have a plywood D box with fabric on the rear. (Very similar to a K6cr)

As with all aircraft you will need to be within weight limits. The max weight for a pilot is 100kg. I am at the heavy end and although the cockpit is quite tight it has proven comfortable for long flights.

Rigging the glider is a two man job with good ringing aids provided it takes about half an hour. It will also come with one man tow-out gear as in the photos.

You are welcome to test fly it however you will need to be glider pilot of up to silver standard with at least 250 hours and pass a site check from one of our instructors. (insurance requirement)

We have loads of paper work for the aircraft with a current log book, Arc's Weighing sheets etc.

It comes with the normal flying instruments ASI (Nots), altimeter (feet) Compass and mechanical Varo however if you like we will sell you the Ilec electric vario for £85.

Reason for sale –We have bought another glider (and it's older than this one!)

This glider has proven how much fun you can have for very few pennies. A winch launch at our club is £7 and for a few hours up in the air it must value for money!

I would also consider syndicating it at Eden Soaring in the Lake district. So If you are interest in a 50% or more share ring me!
